I think that the man reason that Chris cut himself off from society is because of all the hurt, betrayal, and pain that he felt from people; especially his family. This would be a reason for anyone to want to be isolated and alone. His role models, London,Thoreau, and Haines, were only human too and maybe if things in their life affected them as much as Chris then I could see them probably doing the same thing. The first thing people do when the world hurts them is to pull away and go to a place inside yourself as a way of protecting yourself. I have done this numerous times when bad things or hurtful things have happened to me. This is the one way your brain has of protecting yourself from the horribleness of things in life. I pretty much think that maybe his heroes had more to live for then Chris. Although I do not think that Chris meant to die, he was all alone with little food and he could have gotten out. I think that in a way maybe he did not have much to want to live for.

  1. I think That Chris choosed to to into the wild is kind of escaping. He didn't continue to get hur from peoples. Probably he believed that to go into the wild was a way to be closed with nature so that he would get less pain. He respected these people becasue he thought they were his heroes and they survied. When people believe in something, they are easy to be reckless when they face the problem that they believe they can solve it. However, the result is not as Chris perceived. He died.

  2. I think this is true that Chris felt betrayed by his family and he probably did just go to a place inside himself. i hadn't thought about how he would just hold in his pain and that would drive him to want to be alone for so long.Im sorry that you had to experiance hiding away inside yourself i think everybody should have someone that they can talk to about anything.
